Cap'n Dave's Dinosaur Lectures &
Shows
Cap'n Dave's
Upcoming Events
Sunday, 29 June 2008, 12:00 - 3:00 PM

The Nevada Friends of Paleontology will be going to the
Gilcrease Ranch at 8103 Racel St. Las Vegas, NV to identify,
clean and catalog the numerous Ice Age Fossils that have been
found at this location over the years.  This event is open to
anybody interested in learning something about the other side of
paleontology (other than the actual digging).  The work will be
done in an air-conditioned room.  Dr. Steve Rowland and other
veteran NFOP members (like the amazingly handsome Cap'n
Dave) will be there to perform these tasks and help you do them
too.  This is a VERY rare chance for the public to handle real
fossils so don't miss out.

Friday, 11 July 2008, 9:00 - 12:00

I'll be teaching the kids at the Red Mountain Elementary School
in Ivins, UT.  I'll be letting the kids know all the things that
Steven Spielberg got wrong in his famous dinosaur movies.
Well, maybe not all the things he got wrong.  I have only three
hours at the school that day.

Saturday, 12 July 2008 (Times are listed below)

I'll be heading back to Mohave Co, AZ to speak at two libraries.
At 10:30 AM I'll be at the South Mohave Valley Library, located
at 8045 Highway 95 Ste D
Mohave Valley, AZ.  Phone: (928)
768-115.  We'll be doing the "Dinosaurs of the Southwest"
show.  This is a great opportunity for folks in a small town to get
a show.  I salute the Mohave County Library system for
including the smaller libraries in my schedule.

And then at 3:00 PM I'll be at the Bullhead City Library, located
at 1170 Hancock Rd Bullhead City, AZ.  Phone:  (928)
758-0714.  The show will be the same as at South Mohave
Valley Library.  This'll be my second visit to Bullhead City and
I'm really looking forward to it.

25 - 27 July 2008

The Nevada Friends of Paleontology are organizing a two-day
trip to Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park.  This is an amazing place;
the site of almost 40 giant ichthyosaurs and home of Nevada's
state fossil,
Shonisaurus popularis.  Here's the park's website:
parks.nv.gov/bi.htm.

If you are interested in attending please contact NFOP
president, Aubrey Shirk at
nevadafriendsofpaleo@gmail.com.  If
you would like more information on this trip please check out the
Upcoming Events page on NFOP's website
(
complabs.nevada.edu/~shirka2/).

Sometime in August.  Date & Time is TBD

I'll be heading the Dinosaur Discovery Site at the Johnson Farm
in St. George, UT to do one of my favorite shows; "Dinosaurs on
the Big Screen."  I'm a big movie buff and I like talking about the
history of dinosaurs in the movies.  And the best part is that I
don't have to lug four huge tubs of fossils 260 miles round trip.

Sunday, 24 August, 2008, Time is TBD

The Nevada Friends of Paleontology will be heading up to Mt.
Charleston to hunt for prehistoric sharks.  More details to follow.

Friday, 10 October, 10:00 AM

The people at Clark County Eclectic Homeschoolers have
asked me to take them on a bug hunt.  We'll be hunting
Cambrian trilobites, worms and other invertebrates.  If you're
interested in this group please visit their website:

choolers/.  Go to my Shows page for more details on "Cap'n
